10th place for diver Jonathan

NANJING — Diver Jonathan Chan finished in 10th place in the men’s 10m platform event yesterday, amassing 412.40 points for his nine dives in the final.

NANJING — Diver Jonathan Chan finished in 10th place in the men’s 10m platform event yesterday, amassing 412.40 points for his nine dives in the final.

The last Singaporean in action at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, the 17-year-old carried a right tricep injury into the competition. He earlier qualified in 10th place with 384.80 points.

China’s Yang Hao schooled the field of 11 divers, winning gold with 665.90 points, with Canada’s Philippe Gagne clinching silver (531.70) and Mexico’s Rodrigo Diego Lopez taking bronze (512.75).

Said Jonathan, a Secondary 5 student from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) who was also Team Singapore’s flagbearer: “I am just happy I got to compete and not sit out the competition with an injury. I watched what some of the best young divers were able to do and they really inspire me.” ADELENE WONG
