SINGAPORE — V. Sundramoorthy’s Lions could be hosting Causeway rivals Malaysia in a friendly in October, according to media reports.

Football website ESPN reported yesterday that Malaysia have pencilled in an away clash with Singapore on Oct 7 but did not say whether the game will be held at the 55,000-seater National Stadium at the Singapore Sports Hub, or the 7,500-capacity Jalan Besar Stadium.

In response to queries from TODAY, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) declined to provide any details.

“We are currently finalising the details of international friendly matches as part of the National Team’s long-term plans for the year-end AFF Suzuki Cup. We will make a further announcement once the details are confirmed,” said a spokesman.

The last time the two sides met was in November 2014 when Malaysia defeated Singapore 3-1 at the National Stadium to send the defending Suzuki Cup champions out of the group stages of the tournament.

As part of their preparations for this year’s competition, the Lions will gather for centralised training in Singapore from July 8 to 18. They will then head to Japan for a training tour until July 29 where they will also play friendlies matches against J.League sides.

The Lions have also reportedly been invited by the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) to play a friendly against Cambodia in Phnom Penh in August.
