Ambitious Home United make Adam Swandi their first new signing

SINGAPORE — In a bid to recapture their glory days, two-time S.League champions Home United Football Club are sparing no efforts in assembling a young and talented squad for the new season.

SINGAPORE — In a bid to recapture their glory days, two-time S.League champions Home United Football Club are sparing no efforts in assembling a young and talented squad for the new season.

The Protectors announced yesterday that they had made gifted playmaker Adam Swandi their first signing of the 2017 season.

The 20-year-old midfielder joined Home after spending the past two seasons with the Garena Young Lions.

Adam’s signing means coach Aidil Sharin’s team now boast three of Singapore football’s most promising youngsters, with the talented Fandi brothers — Irfan and Ikhsan — already donning Home colours since last season.

Home have snapped up internationals Christopher van Huizen and Izzdin Shafiq, as well as Hougang United’s 16-goal Croatian forward Stipe Plazibat.

They are also expected to sign Singapore No 1 goalkeeper Hassan Sunny, who is returning to the S.League after his stint with Thai side Army United.

“I am very grateful to Home for giving me the opportunity to play with such experienced players,” Adam told TODAY.

“I also feel absolutely excited for the new season as it is the first for me playing for a club in the S.League other than the Young Lions.

“I really hope to be able to perform at my best and get goals and assists for the team. I am going to focus on my performance and work as hard to reach my goal, which is to be a national team regular.”

Adam’s signing would be seen as a coup for Home.

Widely regarded as one of the most gifted midfielders of his generation, Adam made his first senior international appearance aged just 17 years and 143 days when he came on as a second-half substitute against Myanmar in June 2013.

A quick and talented playmaker, he is blessed with good dribbling skills, vision, pace and acceleration. His versatility means he is also capable of playing on either flank, or through the centre as an attacking midfielder or as a striker.

Adam’s talent was apparent since he was a youngster. As a 17-year-old, he caught the eye of European scouts and, in February 2013, Adam signed a two-year contract with French Ligue 2 club FC Metz, joining their Under-19 team. STANLEY HO
