Ex-Man United star Sharpe helps CLA All Stars retain SCC Soccer Sixes masters crown

SINGAPORE — Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe rolled back the years to help the CLA All Stars win the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) Soccer Sixes masters category at the Padang today (Feb 1).

The 43-year-old scored from the penalty spot to help the CLA All Stars beat Club ITE 4-2 in the final after trailing 2-0.

“I was very lucky to score an average penalty,” said Sharpe, whose titles won during his time at United from 1988 to 1996 include the 1992-93 and 1993-94 Premier League titles and the 1991 European Cup Winners’ Cup.

“It wasn’t the best of penalties but it went in. We made it tough for ourselves going 2-0 down, and after losing the first game yesterday, to come back (like this, we) showed great character. We played well, and we deserved to win the tournament.”

Sharpe’s team-mate, former Singapore forward Aleksandar Duric, also said: “It’s a great finish with lots of goals and action. Funny thing is that we start every game 1-0 (or) 2-0 down, so we had to pick up our game.”

The result also means the CLA All Stars have won the SCC Soccer Sixes’ masters category for a third year running.

Winners:
Open (Cup) — SCC Firsts

Open (Plate) — Hong Kong FC

Masters (Cup) — CLA All Stars

Masters (Plate) — Hong Kong FC

Youth tournament (Cup) — Youth Football Home (Thailand)
