SINGAPORE — Football Association of Singapore (FAS) technical director Slobodan Pavkovic has resigned, the FAS announced today (Sept 12).

In a statement, the FAS said the Serbian had quit his post to pursue other opportunities, possibly with club sides in Singapore or South-east Asia (SEA).

Thanking the support he received from FAS president Zainudin Nordin and general secretary Winston Lee, and other stakeholders including the S-League clubs, sponsors and the Singapore Sports School, Pavkovic admitted it will be difficult to leave.

But he was also heartened by the likes of Irfan Fandi, Adam Swandi, Hariss Harun, Safuwan Baharudin and Iqbal Hussain coming through the national youth development system.

“We have a good pool of talented and intelligent players and I firmly believe that more will be presented with the opportunity to play overseas if we receive more support and resources to send our players to play more top-level international matches and also to train at quality facilities and pitches,” he said.

The FAS have begun the search to identify and shortlist qualified candidates, and will make a further announcement in due course.

Pavkovic joined the FAS in April 2008 as technical director, and was tasked with developing the youth development structure and programmes, including the National Football Academy and Junior Centres of Excellence.

He also helped to mentor coaches and teams at competitions such as the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, 2011 SEA Games and the 2013 Asian Youth Games.
