SINGAPORE – National midfielder Hariss Harun’s loan stint with Spanish third-tier outfit CE L’Hospitalet has come to an end after just two weeks.

The 26-year-old, whose parent club is Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), will now instead join S.League side Home United on loan for the time being

Last December, JDT owner, Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibrahim (TMJ),  explained on JDT's Facebook page that Hariss was sent on loan to help Hariss “improve his playing ability by playing at a higher level.”

As such, Hariss was not registered as one of JDT’s foreign players for the season.

However, in a statement on its Facebook page (above) on Thursday night (March 9), JDT's sports director Alistair Edwards said that Hariss' move has not materialised because of tax issues faced by the Spanish Segunda B side. As such, he will be joining Home United until June when the European transfer window reopens.

"Hariss Harun will be joining Home United Football Club on loan from JDT until the European transfer window opens in June," said Edwards.

"Hariss has been in Spain the past month with CE L'Hospitalet, but during the registration process the Spanish club became aware that they weren't able to sign any further players until an existing tax liability is settled.

"This tax liability will be settled in time for Harris to officially rejoin CE L'Hospitalet at the commencement of pre-season training in June.

"We at JDT would like to extend our gratitude to Home United Football Club for their professionalism and collaborative approach in ensuring that Hariss remains in an excellent environment for the betterment of the player, JDT, Home United FC and the Singapore national team."

Meanwhile, L'Hospitaliet's loss is Home United's gain as the Protectors are set to capitalise by bringing the four-time Malaysian Super League (MSL) winner to Bishan Stadium for the next three months.

Home United wrote on its Facebook page: "Home United Football Club is pleased to announce that it is in the process of finalising the signing of Singapore International player and vice-captain Hariss Harun on a loan deal from JDT.

“HUFC welcomes Hariss and would like to extend our appreciation to JDT for their collaborative plan to ensure that Hariss maintains his currency and standard of football. The club will ensure that the Singapore National Team, JDT and HUFC will benefit from Hariss’ professionalism and technical abilities. As a club, we welcome a player of such immense value.

“Hariss has established himself among the best midfielders in South East Asia. Known for his tackling, aerial presence and plain defensive ability, the Singapore international's game was instrumental to JDT's AFC Cup success in 2015. With the signing of Hariss, playing alongside attacking midfielders like Faris Ramli and Adam Swandi, our fans can expect exciting fast-paced and combative style football from The Protectors this season.

“Hariss, aside from his game contribution, will be another excellent mentor and leader, similar to players such as Hassan Sunny, Faris and Juma’at Jantan for the younger players at HUFC.”

Hariss could not be reached for comment.
