SINGAPORE - Home United goalkeeper Hassan Sunny has been given the all clear by the doctors following his horrific mid-air collision with Albirex Niigata (S) player Naofumi Tanaka when the two clubs faced- off at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday night.

Although the 32-year-old Singapore international suffered a broken nose and dislocated shoulder, doctors have confirmed that he did not suffer any bleeding in the brain or spinal or nerve injuries. Both he and Tanaka have been described as being in stable condition.

Home United defeated league leaders Albirex Niigata 2-0 to halt the reigning champions' 11-game unbeaten streak but the atmosphere was soured by the incident which took place just before half time and saw both players being rushed to hospital.

According to a statement by Home on its Facebook page,  Hassan underwent MRI scans to rule out spinal and nerve damages. Although he is in stable condition, the Singapore custodian is in some pain as he recuperates.

“The club is thankful for the outpouring of support and concern for Hassan," the club said.

"We hope that you continue to keep Hassan and his family in your prayers during this period of time. We know Hassan for his strength, resilience and determination, and have no doubt that he will be able to turn the corner from this incident soon.”

Hassan said in a statement which was also issued by Home: “I'm proud that my team stood strong and got the win against Albirex. Like I told them before the game, we need to win them to get a step closer to them and I'm proud of the entire team."

He also posted a selfie on his Instagram account which showed him flashing the thumbs-up. The message on the post read: "Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I am feeling fine, thank God. Can’t wait to be back on the field.”

Meanwhile, TODAY has learnt from Albirex that Tanaka will be discharged on Saturday after being kept under observation overnight at the hospital.
