Iqram stars as Da Vienna A wins adidas Tango League tournament
SINGAPORE - Close to 60 aspiring youth footballers competed in adidas’ Tango League, a first of its kind competition series on Saturday (March 18).
The inaugural league, held at a warehouse at Cantonment Central, saw eight teams featuring players aged 16 to 25 battling for a cash prize of $1,500. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament would also walk away with a one-year boot deal.
In line with the street soccer theme, the participants also enjoyed skateboarding performances while deejays spun hip-hop mixes. Artist SKL0 also completed a football inspired art piece all while DMC Champions DJs Tang and Rattle graced the decks with live hip-hop mixes.
The final was a derby which pitted Da Vienna A against Da Vienna B. The players pulled out all the stops, with tricks, flicks and no-look passes. Da Viena A emerged champions in a 3-2 triumph.
Winning the MVP award and a one-year boot deal was Da Vienna A’s three-goal hero Iqram Rifqi. However, the 21-year-old thanked his teammates as he said: “Without them I wouldn’t have won MVP. The teamwork too was important as without it we wouldn’t have won all our matches.”
Joseph Lee, Brand Manager of adidas Singapore said: “It’s been great watching the youth footballing community in Singapore come together and celebrate the intersection of sport and street culture.
“We are looking to plan the next edition and will look to make Tango League even bigger and better, with more opportunities to promote the sport among our youths in Singapore.”
