SINGAPORE – Izwan Mahbud’s heroics against Japan in June has earned the Singapore goalkeeper a one-week trial with J-League side Matsumoto Yamaga.

The Lions shot-stopper caught the eye after making 18 saves against the Samurai Blue in their World Cup qualifying match in Saitama.

The 25-year-old left for Japan this morning.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to train with one of the top teams in Japan,” said Izwan. “It will be a good learning stint and I will maximise this opportunity.”

Matsumoto Yamaga were relegated from the Japanese top-flight at the end of this season, with just seven wins from 34 games, conceding 54 goals.
