SINGAPORE — Singapore’s first-choice goalkeeper Hassan Sunny, 30, is going for a trial with Thai Premier League side Army United FC.
Currently attached to S-League club Tampines Rovers, Hassan was Bernd Stange’s top pick as custodian for the recent ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup, and his fine performance between the sticks attracted the attention of the Thai club.
Said Tay Peng Kee, general manager of Tampines Rovers: “We have received an official letter from Army United inviting Hassan for a three-day trial. The Football Association of Singapore has also been informed and we have agreed to let him go and attend the trials.”
The Army club, who are based in Bangkok, finished ninth in the 2014 Thai Premier League season and are being coached by former England defender Gary Stevens.
Added Tay: “I spoke to Hassan today and he told me that he has got nothing to lose by going for the trials. If he gets a good offer he will consider. The club will not stand in his way either. We are happy for him, but if he joins the Thai club, then it will a loss for us also.” DAN GUEN CHIN
