SINGAPORE — Masters Football Asia has taken a twist for 2014, with a team comprised exclusively of former Liverpool greats heading to Singapore to take on a Representative XI at Jalan Besar Stadium on Nov 15.
The Liverpool side will feature ex-Anfield stars such as Robbie Fowler (picture), Patrik Berger and Vladimir Smicer, with Steve McManaman also set to confirm. The Singapore XI will be made up of domestic greats such as Fandi Ahmad, V Sundramoorthy, Malek Awab, Nazri Nasir and Aleksandar Duric.
Ex-Red Fowler said of his return to Singapore: “I’ve played here on a few occasions and Singaporeans never cease to amaze me with their passion and knowledge of the English Premier League and Liverpool FC. The fans make me feel so welcome and it really pleases me to be able to play with my fellow Reds against Singapore football heroes.”
Fans who purchase their tickets online via www.ticketbooth.com.sg from July 22 until midday on Nov 11 will get the chance to win the opportunity to dine with the teams, travel to the game with them on the team buses and even take their place on the team benches during the match.
Mr Chris Comer, CEO of Masters Football Asia sponsor Castlewood Group, recognised the importance of the event in Singapore’s growing sporting landscape.
“As Singapore goes from strength to strength as a global sporting hub, we hope to see more businesses give back to the local community through sporting ventures such as this, giving the supporters here a chance to get up close and personal with their stars,” he said.
