Marvel at Suarez, but keep an eye on Morrison too

Luis Suarez has scored more goals on his own this season than 40 per cent of Premier League clubs. Liverpool’s Champions League rivals Tottenham Hotspur are level pegging with the Uruguayan on 13.

The Reds’ No 7 is in the form of his life.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, Suarez produced one of the finest individual displays I have ever seen.

Tormenting Norwich City mercilessly, a club he had already scored two hat-tricks against previously, the South American netted four wondrous goals, three of which will be contenders for Goal of the Month, maybe Goal of the Season. It was astonishing.

To inspire another three more points tonight, the ex-Ajax ace is not likely to have to strain himself to quite the same degree. West Ham have not scored at Anfield since 2006, and without centre forward Andy Carroll, they have been largely inept in front of goal all season.

Pound for pound, Suarez is the most gifted footballer in English football, but the Hammers do have a rising star of their own who is not too far away when it comes to natural ability.

Ravel Morrison, 20, is an attacking midfielder with the talent to enjoy an amazing career, but whether he is able to keep his nose clean away from the game and dedicate himself to the profession remains to be seen.

After constant disciplinary issues and various run-ins with the police, Manchester United reluctantly gave up hope on the prodigy two years ago. However, based on his performances for West Ham this season and the lack of trouble he has caused manager Sam Allardyce, it seems Morrison is well on the way to redemption.

Suarez is the big box-office star in this contest, but one day the stage might belong to Morrison.

Remember the name. ADRIAN CLARKE
