LONDON — Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said yesterday (Aug 21) that a new bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney won’t be submitted until after Monday’s match at the Premier League champions.

Chelsea has had two bids rejected for the unsettled Rooney, who indicated to United toward the end of last season that he wanted to leave.

United has said Rooney is not for sale but that has not deterred Chelsea in its pursuit of the England international.

Mourinho says “we did (bid) before and we will do later, but I think this period — from the ethical point of view — is a period when we are going to be quiet and just thinking about that game”.

After the match at Old Trafford on Aug 26, Chelsea has a week until the transfer window closes on Sept 2 to sign Rooney. AP
