LONDON — Seven months later than originally envisaged, Loic Remy (picture) arrived last night on Tyneside and agreed on a season-long loan from Queens Park Rangers.
The deal, concluded after the France striker underwent an exhaustive medical, cost Newcastle a £2 million (S$3.9 million) facilitation fee and, should all go well, is likely to turn into a permanent transfer next June.
The 26-year-old had been en route to St James’ Park for nearly £9 million from Marseille in January, only for the switch to be hijacked by QPR manager Harry Redknapp.
Although Remy scored six goals in 14 appearances, he failed to prevent QPR being relegated to the Championship and they were anxious to be relieved of the forward’s £70,000-a-week wages.
Meanwhile, Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed that QPR playmaker Adel Taarabt will undergo a medical today over a proposed season-long loan deal.
“We agreed everything with the club, so the only thing we have to do is a medical,” Jol said. “If that is sound and good, he will join us.”
