LONDON — Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo has posted a message on his Facebook account to deny claims that he regularly uses a swear word when referring to Barcelona winger Lionel Messi.

In the book titled Messi, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims that the Portugal and former Manchester United star would often call his Argentine rival “mother------”.

Balague also says in the book that he had received the information from some of Ronaldo’s teammates and that he uses the term against anyone caught speaking to Messi.

However, Ronaldo issued an angry denial on Tuesday night.

“News is circulating that I allegedly made offending remarks regarding Lionel Messi,” he said.

“This is absolutely false and I have assured my lawyer takes action to sue those responsible.

“I have the utmost respect for all my professional colleagues and Messi is obviously no exception.”

The two great rivals are currently locked in a race to break Raul’s Champions League goal record of 71. Messi equalled the mark with two goals against Ajax, while Ronaldo is on 70.

They are due to come up against each other at Old Trafford next week when Portugal and Argentina play in a friendly. THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
