SINGAPORE — It is confirmed: The exclusive rights to screen the World Cup in Singapore this year have finally been inked by SingTel.

The telco is now offering a huge carrot to viewers. For the first time, football fans, if they are SingTel customers, can watch the World Cup for free.

However, it comes with a caveat. New customers will have to sign up for the Mio Stadium package for 24 months, while existing customers will have to renew their contracts for the same period.

For those who do not wish to do so, they would have to pay a one-time charge of S$112.35 including goods and services tax, said SingTel, which is also finalising details with StarHub to let its customers access the matches, under the cross carriage rule.

In another first, SingTel is also making all 64 matches available live and on demand on tablets and smartphones, via its MioTV Go application.

Mr Allen Lew, country chief officer of SingTel, said: “With the tournament still three months away, we are delighted to be able to give Singapore the certainty of being able to watch every match.”
