S’pore U18s lose to Thailand in AFC U19 C’ship qualifier

SINGAPORE — The Singapore U18 team fell to their second defeat in their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championship qualifying campaign when they were beaten 0-3 by hosts Thailand in Nonthaburi tonight (Oct 4).

SINGAPORE — The Singapore U18 team fell to their second defeat in their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championship qualifying campaign when they were beaten 0-3 by hosts Thailand in Nonthaburi tonight (Oct 4).

Thailand led 2-0 at half time after scoring in the 33rd and 41st minutes. The hosts scored their final goal in the 50th min.

Coached by Takuya Inoue, Singapore had entered the qualifiers seeking to finish at least third in a group that includes South Korea and Thailand. The other countries in the group are Chinese Taipei and Northern Mariana.

The top teams from each of the 10 qualifying groups and the five best runner-up teams qualify for the AFC U19 finals in Bahrain next year.

Singapore had lost 2-6 to South Korea in their opening match last Monday but bounced back to beat Northern Mariana 10-0.

In other matches this past week, Chinese Taipei beat Northern Mariana 10-0, South Korea beat Chinese Taipei 7-1, Thailand defeated Northern Mariana 7-0 and South Korean beat Northern Mariana 11-0.

Singapore’s final game is against Chinese Taipei on Tuesday.
