S'pore's Lionesses in 3-0 romp over Bangladesh

SINGAPORE - The Singapore women's national team got their Women's Development Triangular campaign off to a winning start on Thursday night when they defeated Bangladesh 3-0 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Two goals from Raudhah Kamis and one by Joey Cheng gave the Lionesses all three points but it could have well been a different story if skipper and goalkeeper Noor Kusumawati had not been in such fine form in between the posts.

Pulling off a string of saves, she ensured that Bangladesh would go home empty-handed despite laying siege on the Singapore goal.

Singapore took the lead in the eighth minute against the flow of traffic when Raudhah shocked the dominant Bangladeshis with her sweet lob over the Bangladesh keeper.

Cheng then made it 2-0 when her freekick from distance was fumbled into the net by the Bangladesh custodian.

Raudhah then sealed the win with a clinical strike two minutes into the second half.

The Lionesses will have a day's break while Bangladesh will face Malaysia on Friday night at Jalan Besar (7.30pm).

Singapore will then take on their Causeway rivals on Saturday at 7.30pm at Jalan Besar.
