Spot sales for unsold AFF Suzuki Cup tickets for visiting teams

SINGAPORE — Myanmar fans who were not able to obtain tickets for their team’s matches in the ongoing AFF Suzuki Cup Group B games here are set to miss out, although Malaysia and Thailand supporters may still be able to purchase unsold ticket for their teams’ remaining two matches.

When contacted by TODAY, a Football Association of Singapore (FAS) spokesperson said: “All remaining unsold tickets from the 1,500 (ticket) allocation per country will be put on sale. All Myanmar tickets are sold out.”

The FAS had announced on Nov 7 that tickets for Myanmar fans for all three Group B matches were sold out, although that did not stop a large number of Myanmar fans from turning up at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday hoping to find a way in.

Many were seen trying to catch glimpses of the Malaysia vs Myanmar tie from nearby HDB blocks, with a reader writing in to complain that the 2,000-seat King Georges’ Road stand had been left empty.

TODAY understands the FAS made available 1,500 tickets per match for each of the three visiting teams here, namely Myanmar, Malaysia and Thailand, and were acting on safety guidelines from the Singapore Police Force. “As soon as tickets (for Myanmar fans) were sold out, we told the press and communicated to the fans by posting on our various social media channels,” said the FAS spokesperson.

Sunday’s match at the 7,500-capacity Jalan Besar Stadium drew a crowd of 3,532 fans, which included attendance from complimentary tickets made available to sponsors and the respective FAs.

The Main Grandstand has been set aside for fans from the designated home team, with away fans taking up the opposite gallery.

FAS’ new arrangement will see unsold tickets put on sale at the Jalan Besar Stadium box offices as well as the Sports Hub, on a first-come first-served basis. Fans will need to head to ticket booths designated for their teams on opposite sides of the stadium, and will be required to produce their photo ID for verification.
