Warriors lose AFC Cup opener to Persipura

SINGAPORE — Eight-time S-League champions Warriors FC started their 2015 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup campaign on a disappointing note after a 3-1 defeat to Indonesia’s Persipura Jayapura tonight (Feb 24).

SINGAPORE — Eight-time S-League champions Warriors FC started their 2015 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup campaign on a disappointing note after a 3-1 defeat to Indonesia’s Persipura Jayapura tonight (Feb 24).

Goals from Lacine Kone, Boaz Solossa and Nelson Alom gave the visitors the win at the Jalan Besar Stadium. The Warriors’ solitary strike came from Andy Ahmad.

The result leaves the Warriors bottom of Group E, with Persipura top. The group’s other match between India’s Bengaluru and Maziya of the Maldives was still in progress.

The Warriors’ next AFC Cup game is away in the Maldives, where they face Maziya.
