SINGAPORE — The Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby 7s (SCC 7s) will celebrate its 67th edition this year by showcasing new teams in French side Grenoble University Rugby, as well as a team representing China’s People’s Liberation Army.

They will join several former winning sides that have signed up to return for this year’s event, to be held at the Padang — including the Penguins (who won in 2010) from the United Kingdom, Fiji’s Daveta (2011 and 2012 winners) and Sydney-based club side Randwick (1993 winners) from Australia.

They will be joined by Singapore’s representatives, including the Singapore Barbarians and the Singapore National Team.

The 32 teams will fight it out at the Padang over three days, from Oct 31 to Nov 2, for the Ablitt Cup.

The Penguins were one of the headline acts last year, reaching and then narrowly losing the final in heart-breaking fashion to the Asia Pacific Dragons side.

The SCC 7s is one of the oldest invitational team sports events in Asia, having started in the ’40s and which continues to grow year-on-year.
