SINGAPORE — The world’s top 10 female golfers have confirmed their participation for the ninth edition of the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore (March 3-6), organisers said today (Feb 4).

Following the confirmation of world No 1 Lydia Ko, world No 2 and defending champion, Park Inbee and 2014 champion Paula Creamer (No 54), the remaining eight players inside the top 10 have also thrown their hat into the ring to vie for the US$1.5 million (S$2.1 million) prize purse at the Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Golf Course.

Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson and Brittany Lincicome, the world’s third, fourth and 16th ranked golfers respectively, will lead the American challenge for the championship. The Park-led Korean contingent will include talents such as Ryu So Yeon (No 5), Kim Sei Young (No 7), Amy Yang (No 8), Chun In Gee (No 9) and Kim Hyo Joo (No 10).

China’s Feng Shanshan will continue to fly the flag for China. Currently ranked sixth in the world, the Guangzhou native is no stranger to the course, having come close to lifting the trophy in 2012 and 2015 when she finished tied-second and tied-fourth, respectively.

Two-time major champion, Lewis, hailed the HSBC Women’s Champions as “one of the toughest tournaments on the tour” with the quality of the field “always exceptional”.

“Lydia and In-bee are the in-form players at the moment. They are great competitors and deserving champions, but I am working hard on my game. I came in third last year behind them, but I have won this before, so (there is) no reason why I cannot do it again.”

Added Feng: “Training has gone well over the off-season and I am looking forward to a good start in 2016. I am looking forward to catching up with my fans in Singapore and experiencing the new-look and feel of the event.”

Singapore will be represented by Koh Sock Hwee in the HSBC Women’s Champions this year. The 26-year-old won the host country qualifying tournament in January to earn the spot.
