INCHEON — Singapore’s Sentosa Golf Club (SGC) has been selected as the host venue for the annual Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) in 2018, organisers announced yesterday during the eighth edition of the amateur event in South Korea.

INCHEON — Singapore’s Sentosa Golf Club (SGC) has been selected as the host venue for the annual Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) in 2018, organisers announced yesterday during the eighth edition of the amateur event in South Korea.

The AAC, currently hosted by the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, will see the champion receive an invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and, along with the runner(s)-up, a spot in qualifying series for the British Open at Royal Birkdale.

The AAC was last held in Singapore in 2011 at the Singapore Island Country Club.

“The AAC opens doors for amateur golfers throughout our region,” said Singapore Golf Association president Ross Tan.

“We look forward to building upon the development of the game in the years to come by supporting the AAC and its continued impact on golf in the Asia-Pacific.”

The 2017 AAC will be held in New Zealand, while the 2018 AAC will be conducted on SGC’s The New Tanjong Course, which was redesigned in 2016 and is in its final stages of redevelopment.

“The opportunities afforded to the amateurs who compete in this event are truly life-changing. It will be an honour to welcome young players from across the region to Sentosa Golf Club, where their talents will be appropriately displayed and challenged,” said SGC president Low Teo Ping.
