SMBC Singapore Open to return next year in January

SINGAPORE – Following a successful return to the local sports calendar this year, the SMBC Singapore Open will once again be staged next year, and will be held from Jan 19-22 at the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club.

SINGAPORE – Following a successful return to the local sports calendar this year, the SMBC Singapore Open will once again be staged next year, and will be held from Jan 19-22 at the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club.

The US$1 million (S$1,348,300) tournament, which is jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO), was attracted close to 20,000 fans over five days for this year’s event.

The Singapore Open, first played in 1961, boasts an esteemed list of past champions including the likes of Australian Adam Scott, England’s Ian Poulter and Angel Cabrera of Argentina.

The reigning champion is South Korea’s Song Young Han, who beat former world No 1 Jordan Spieth by one-shot at this year’s tournament.
