Joseph Schooling sets national 50m butterfly record at FINA World Championships

KAZAN (Russia) — Joseph Schooling raised Singapore’s hopes of a first ever medal at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia when he clocked a time of 23.40 seconds in the men’s 50m butterfly heats.

KAZAN (Russia) — Joseph Schooling raised Singapore’s hopes of a first ever medal at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia when he clocked a time of 23.40 seconds in the men’s 50m butterfly heats.

He finished fifth out of a field of 80 and will advance to the semi-finals, which takes place at 11pm (Singapore time) tonight (Aug 2).

To make the final, Schooling has to finish among the eight fastest in the semi-finals.

His timing is just 0.04s behind third-fastest finisher Rafael Munoz from Spain. It is also a new national record, beating his own previous best time of 23.49s set at the SEA Games in June. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
