SINGAPORE - Promising middle-distance runner Lui Yuan Chow continued his record-breaking form when he set new national Under-18 and Under-20 records in the 1,500m in Melbourne on Thursday (Jan 19).

The 17-year-old, representing Doncaster Athletic Club, clocked 3min 54.53sec in the Men's B 1,500m at the Vic Millers Meet 3 to rewrite his previous record of 3min 55.07sec which he had set in the Vic Milers Meet 2 just last month.

The student of Melbourne High School finished third in his event, behind winner Kang Nyoak (3:54.02) and Brett Halls (3:54.17).

Yuah Chow's latest time means that he is now inching his way towards qualifying for this year's SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur in August. The qualifying mark is 3:49.35,which is the bronze medal-winning time of the last edition.

His time would have also placed him in sixth in the 2015 SEA Games, as well as made him the fastest Singaporean.

Raviin Kumar and Fang Jianyong, Singapore's representatives in the event at the 2015 Games, finished seventh and eighth respectively, clocking times of 3:56.96 and 4:00.33.
