SINGAPORE — A first of its kind endurance relay row around Singapore will take place on Apr 22, with some 40 people from the maritime and insurance industry in Singapore coming together to raise funds for global maritime welfare charity, The Mission to Seafarers.

Starting from VivoCity, each rower will do six two-hour rowing shifts as they make their way clockwise round the island — a 140km journey — in two replica 19th century Cornish pilot boats. The objective is to row non-stop for 24 hours in a bid to raise S$750,000.

Several corporate organisations such as Norton Rose Fulbright LLP have come on board to fund this event, with the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club providing the team with storage and training facilities.

Said Nicky Wynne, The Mission to Seafarers’ director of development: “I am absolutely delighted we have been chosen as a charity for Mission RASI. Raising funds for our work is extremely challenging and we are deeply grateful to the RASI team for their enthusiasm and drive to get this project off the round.”
