SINGAPORE — Table tennis in Singapore received another shot in the arm yesterday, after Mitsubishi Electric renewed its sponsorship of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) for another three years.

SINGAPORE — Table tennis in Singapore received another shot in the arm yesterday, after Mitsubishi Electric renewed its sponsorship of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) for another three years.

The Japanese multinational electronics and electrical equipment manufacturing company, which has been supporting the national body since 2011, signed a new deal worth S$300,000 at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the inaugural STTA Table Tennis Corporate League yesterday.

The sponsorship deal, which will run from next January to December 2016, will see Mitsubishi Electric’s logo featured on the left sleeve of national jerseys worn by Singapore’s paddlers at the ITTF World Tour Tournaments and major championships.

“I’d like to thank Mitsubishi Electric for extending its sponsorship contract with the STTA, and we are excited to have them on board for another three years,” said STTA President Lee Bee Wah.

“Sponsorships provide an essential resource for the STTA’s sports excellence plans and allow for the continued growth and success of Singapore table tennis.”

Mitsubishi Electric’s sponsorship means that the STTA has managed to garner more than S$5 million in sponsorship deals since 2011.

The Corporate League is an initiative by the STTA to get companies to compete against one another and promote active sporting lifestyles.

Yesterday’s six-team tournament was won by Keppel Corporation.SingTel finished second, while SIA Engineering Company (SIA-EC) and Mitsubishi Electric were third and fourth respectively.

As a reward for finishing first, the Keppel Corporation team got to spar against the STTA’s Youth Olympic Games training squad.
