SINGAPORE – One Championship’s Atomweight world champion Angela Lee will be back in the cage at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 27 in her second title defence, mixed martial arts organisation One Championship announced on Thursday (March 16).

SINGAPORE – One Championship’s Atomweight world champion Angela Lee will be back in the cage at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 27 in her second title defence, mixed martial arts organisation One Championship announced on Thursday (March 16).

The 20-year-old Hawaiian will face Brazilian fighter Istela Nunes, a two-time Muay Thai world champion who boasts a perfect record of five wins and no losses.

Lee’s second title defence comes just two months after she dispatched challenger Jenny Huang of Taiwan in a technical knockout last Saturday to maintain her unblemished record of seven wins. Touted as one of the Asian promotion’s top athletes, Lee became One Championship’s first female champion last May after defeating Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi in an unanimous decision.

“I said at the beginning of the year that I will make 2017 one to remember,” said Lee.

“I will keep my promise of being as active as I possibly can and I can’t wait to get right back in there. After my last fight, I showed everybody just how much I have improved over the last couple of months. I’m ready to do it again.

“Istela Nunes had better be ready to go to battle, because this time I’m defending the title on my turf.”

Nunes is ready for the biggest title fight of her career, as the 24-year-old said: “When I joined One Championship, I had my eyes set on the world title.

“It’s my goal to someday become a world champion in mixed martial arts, and Angela Lee is one of the best fighters in the world. I cannot wait to test myself against a fighter of her caliber. I am preparing myself well and will make sure that I come ready for the best Angela Lee possible.”

Victor Cui, CEO of ONE Championship is confident that Lee and Nunes will give fans a fight to remember, as he said: “Angela Lee is proving to be an awesome champion and a true competitor.

“Istela Nunes is a worthy challenger for the One Women’s Atomweight World Championship and Singapore has a tremendous fight on their hands.”

Tickets to One: Dynasty of Heroes will go on sale on Friday (March 17) at www.onefc.com
