Mark Webber ‘okay’ after serious crash in race in Brazil

SAO PAULO — Former Formula One driver Mark Webber escaped without serious injuries after a scary crash in an endurance race in Brazil this morning (Dec 1, Singapore time)
The Porsche team said on Twitter that Webber was “OK” after the “heavy crash” in the World Endurance Championship race in Sao Paulo.
Webber’s car collided hard with the outside wall entering the main straight at the Interlagos track. Officials said the Australian driver gave a “thumbs up” sign from the stretcher before being taken away in an ambulance for further tests at the track’s medical centre.
The back end of his Porsche was badly damaged but Webber appeared to be alert the whole time.
The crash happened with less than 30 minutes left in the six-hour race, which ended under the safety car.
