Moyes faces selection dilemma against West Ham

LONDON — No pace, no creativity, no belief, no game plan. Manchester United were shuddered to their core by the humiliation Liverpool dished out on them last weekend at the Theatre of Bad Dreams.

LONDON — No pace, no creativity, no belief, no game plan. Manchester United were shuddered to their core by the humiliation Liverpool dished out on them last weekend at the Theatre of Bad Dreams.

Six days on, the world suddenly looks a happier place. Thanks to his revamped side’s much-improved 3-0 win over Olympiakos in midweek, David Moyes can now look at himself in the mirror again without screaming.

His brave decision to recall Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia paid off and paved the way for just the kind of dynamic performance his predecessor used to revel in.

Now, comes the dilemma. Should Moyes stick with the same 11 (for the first time this season), or should he rip it up and start again?

Leaving his two major signings, Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini, on the bench would tell a story, as would his reliance on a 40-year-old player-coach for a second game in four days.

In addition, anyone who saw West Ham’s Andy Carroll physically destroy Ferdinand in last season’s corresponding fixture would also warn the Scot not to risk starting the veteran again.

Yet, none of the players who helped the Red Devils reach the last eight of the Champions League deserve to be dropped. They did their jobs well. Adrian Clarke
