SINGAPORE — National bowler New Hui Fen ensured Singapore ended the 23rd Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok on a high after winning the women’s Masters today.

Advancing to the showpiece stepladder finals as the topseed — her 4038 total pinfalls from 16 games smashed the previous record of 3751 set in 2008 by Korean Choi Jin-A — 23-year-old New faced Korean Son Yun Hee, who had beaten Malaysia’s Sin Li Jane 225-162 in the semi-finals.

Though she lost the first game of the final 240-208, New stormed back on the second time of asking with a 270-193 win over Son for the title.

New’s gold added to two other medals Singapore won at these Championships — gold in the Women’s Trios, and a silver in the Women’s Team event.
