In shock defeat, Feng Tianwei crashes out of women's singles q-finals at Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO — Team Singapore paddler Feng Tianwei is out of the women’s singles contest at the Olympic Games after suffering a shock defeat to Japan’s Ai Fukuhara in the quarterfinals on Tuesday morning (Aug 9, Brazil time).

RIO DE JANEIRO —  Team Singapore paddler Feng Tianwei is out of the women’s singles contest at the Olympic Games after suffering a shock defeat to Japan’s Ai Fukuhara in the quarterfinals on Tuesday morning (Aug 9, Brazil time).

The defending bronze medallist, who is ranked fourth in the world, found herself on the back foot early in the contest against the Japanese (8), who stormed to a 14-12, 11-8, 11-7 win in the first three games before claiming victory 11-5 to the delight of the fans in the arena.

Feng will lead the women’s team in their defence of the bronze medal from the 2012 London Games later this week, as they kick off their campaign against Egypt.
