INCHEON - Feng Tianwei has won Team Singapore’s last medal at the Incheon Asian Games, finishing joint-third in the women’s singles after a 4-0 loss to China’s Zhu Yuling in today’s (Oct 4) semi-final at the Suwon Gymnasium.

Both paddlers kept the crowd on the edge of their seats with their fiery smashes and rallies in the first three games. Despite coming close in all three games, world No 4 Feng - who is nursing a knee injury - could not overcome her opponent, losing the match 13-11, 13-11, 14-12, 11-8.

Zhu and teammate Liu Shiwen will play the gold medal match later this afternoon, while Feng and South Korea’s Yang Ha-eun will both be awarded a joint-bronze.

“I think my play was okay today, but I lost some crucial points. My positioning was a bit weak due to my injury, but my opponent prepared better than me and she was very steady,“ said Feng.

“There was more pressure this time because Yu Mengyu was injured and I had to lead two younger players. The women’s singles was very challenging and difficult, and it was not easy to get a medal so I’m quite satisfied.”

The national paddlers have won three bronze medals at the Asian Games in the women’s team, women’s singles and men’s doubles.
