Scholes to play for England Masters in S’pore on Nov 12

SINGAPORE — Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes has confirmed his participation in November’s Battle of Europe 2016 game between England Masters and Germany Masters at the National Stadium.

SINGAPORE — Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes has confirmed his participation in November’s Battle of Europe 2016 game between England Masters and Germany Masters at the National Stadium.

Hailed by peers and legends as the best midfielder of his time, Scholes scored 14 goals in 66 appearances for England before retiring from international football in 2004.

Nicknamed the Ginger Prince, Scholes played 499 games for United in a 21-year career with his only football club. During that time, he scored 107 goals, and won 11 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.

The 41-year-old said in a media release: “Matches against Germany are always memorable and the Battle of Europe is no different. I’ve always enjoyed my trips to Singapore and it will be extra special for me this November and I am looking forward to playing alongside my team mates in a couple of months.”

In addition to Scholes, former Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer will also join the England Masters squad which already includes David James, Steve McManaman, Emile Heskey, Teddy Sheringham, Darren Anderton, Michael Thomas, Paul Parker, Danny Murphy and Des Walker.

The Germany Masters team features Lothar Matthaus, Jens Nowotny, Mario Basler, Jorg Heinrich, Dietmar Hamann, and Karl-Heinz Riedle.

The game will be held on Nov 12 at the National Stadium. Tickets are available from $19 at www.mastersfootball.com as well as Sports Hub Tix.
