Schooling through to 200m butterfly semis at World C’ships

SINGAPORE — National swimmer Joseph Schooling has qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 200m butterfly at the FINA World Championships in Kazan after clocking 1min 56.85sec in the heats this afternoon (Aug 4).

SINGAPORE — National swimmer Joseph Schooling has qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 200m butterfly at the FINA World Championships in Kazan after clocking 1min 56.85sec in the heats this afternoon (Aug 4).

Schooling, 20, was the 13th fastest qualifier among the 40-strong field, with the top 16 swimmers going through to the next round.

Teammate Quah Zheng Wen, finished 21st with a time of 1:58.32, and did not qualify for the semis.

Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh finished as the fastest qualifier in a time of 1:53.71, while Denmark’s Viktor Bromer (1:54.47) and Japan’s Daiya Seto (1:55.60) qualified in second and third place respectively. Defending champion and 2012 Olympics gold medallist, South African Chad le Clos, also made the semi-finals after finishing 14th overall in 1:56.92.

The semi-finals of the men’s 200m butterfly heats will take place in Kazan at 12.04am (Aug 5, Singapore time).
