SINGAPORE — Sprinter Shanti Pereira has won the women’s 200m final at the National Stadium today (June 10) to secure Singapore’s first gold medal in a track event at this SEA Games.

SINGAPORE — Sprinter Shanti Pereira has won the women’s 200m final at the National Stadium today (June 10) to secure Singapore’s first gold medal in a track event at this SEA Games.

The 18-year-old Republic Polytechnic student crossed the finish line first in a national record of 23.60secs, ahead of favourite Kayla Richardson of the Philippines who took silver (23.71).

Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Oanh had to settle for the bronze in 23.92.

It is also Singapore’s second gold in athletics today — after Zhang Guirong clinched the women’s shot put earlier — and third overall, following Soh Rui Yong’s win in the men’s marathon on Sunday.
