KUALA LUMPUR — Shanti Pereira was not able to successfully defend her SEA Games 200m title on Wednesday night (Aug 23) as she finished third in the event in 23.68sec.

In a repeat of Tuesday's 100m final (Aug 22), Vietnam's Le Tu Chinh won the event in 23.32sec, just below Shanti's SEA Games record of 23.60sec, to complete the 100m-200m double.

Meanwhile Malaysia's Husniah Zulkifli shrugged off a late surge by Shanti to finish second in 23.64sec, to the delight of the home crowd in the stands which included Malaysia's Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Shanti looked visibly disappointed at losing her 200m crown but will have two more events to compete - the 4x100m relay on Friday (Aug 25) and the 4x400m relay on Saturday (Aug 26).
