SEA Games: Singapore canoeists finish top of medal table

SINGAPORE – The Singapore Canoeing Federation’s (SCF) 19-strong team ended their 28th South-east Asian (SEA) Games campaign on a high as they clinched two gold and five silver medals today (June 9) to finish first in the sport’s medal table.

SINGAPORE – The Singapore Canoeing Federation’s (SCF) 19-strong team ended their 28th South-east Asian (SEA) Games campaign on a high as they clinched two gold and five silver medals today (June 9) to finish first in the sport’s medal table.

Sarah Chen secured Singapore’s first gold medal of the day when she won the Women’s K1 200m final at the Marina Channel in a time of 44.689 seconds. Indonesia’s Erni Sokoy clinched the silver, while Do Thi Thanh Thao of Vietnam settled for bronze.

Mervyn Toh, who won silver in the K1 200m at the 2013 Myanmar Games, went one better this year as he powered to a first-place finish in the same event with a time of 37.860 seconds. Thailand’s Aditep Srichart and Vietnam’s Gandie Gandie won the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Singapore also achieved second-place finishes in five other events today – the Men’s K4 200m, Men’s C2 200m, Men’s K2 200m, Women’s K2 200m and Women’s K4 200m – to take their final haul in the sport this year to seven gold and five silver medals.

Thailand finished behind Singapore in the canoeing medal table with four gold, six silver and one bronze, while Indonesia was third with three gold, four silver and six bronze.
