At the Sunway Mega Lanes, the Singaporean quintet, comprising Basil Ng, Jaris Goh, Darren Ong, Keith Saw and Cheah Ray Han, posted a score of 6,399 pinfalls to emerge top of the seven-team field.
Indonesia came in second with 6,280 pinfalls, while Thailand took the bronze with 6,278 pinfalls.
The last time Singapore won a men’s team gold at the regional event was in 1995, when Ricky Ng, Tommy Ong, Jack Wong, Sam Goh and Lim Choon Heng emerged victorious at the Thailand Games.
Meanwhile, Singapore’s women bowlers retained the silver in the team event after scoring 6,203 pinfalls to finish ahead of third-placed the Philippines (6,075 pinfalls). Hosts Malaysia secured the gold with a score of 6,264 pinfalls.
