SINGAPORE — Swimmer Quah Zheng Wen has won Singapore’s 51st gold medal at the 2015 South-east Asian (SEA) Games gold medal, after he won the men’s 400m Individual Medley final at the OCBC Aquatic Centre this evening (June 9).

The 18-year-old clinched the historic gold in a time of 4mins 23.50secs ahead of compatriot Pang Sheng Jun (4:24.81), while Vietnam’s Tran Duy Khoi came in third (4:26.29).

Quah’s victory ensured Singapore surpassed their best ever SEA Games gold medal haul of 50 set in 1993 – the last time Singapore hosted the biennial meet.

His team-mate Tao Li had clinched the host nation’s 50th gold medal earlier in the evening after winning the women’s 100m backstroke.
