Sentosa Golf Club raises S$200,000 for Arc Children's Centre, Assisi Hospice

SINGAPORE - Sentosa Golf Club (SGC) has raised S$200,000 for the beneficiaries of Arc Children’s Centre and Assisi Hospice in a landmark charity fundraising drive organised in conjunction with the opening of SGC’s New Tanjong Course.

Launched during the soft opening of the redeveloped course in Nov 2016, the fund-raising effort for seriously ill patients under the care of the two charity organisations featured a slew of activities, including the sale of charity golf games, auction of limited edition golfing paraphernalia as well as donations from corporate partners.

The fundraising drive culminated in Wednesday’s (MAy 17) cheque presentation ceremony at SGC, where Arc Children’s Centre and Assisi Hospice each received S$100,000.

Arc Children Centre chairman Dr Yeoh Joo Seang said: “Children undergoing cancer treatment often cannot do the same things as other children, like going out with friends or attending school. Instead, their second home is the hospital, where their friends are nurses and doctors.

"For the children, their usual routine revolves around blood tests and, often, an emotional loss of control. 

“Arc Children’s Centre brings normalcy to their lives by being more than a childcare centre for young cancer patients, providing a safe and clean haven for the children and their families, where they can not only face problems together but also, importantly, have fun. 

“With Sentosa Golf Club’s fund-raising effort, Arc will be able to provide the children with educational and developmental activities like physiotherapy, brain gym, creative play, dance, as well as music and movement classes, changing the lives of these children and bringing hope of a bright future.”

Assisi Hospice chief executive officer Choo Shiu Ling added: “We are grateful that Sentosa Golf Club has chosen us to be a beneficiary of their fundraising efforts. We want to thank the kind members of the Club and other partners who gave generously. This donation is timely as we have increased our capacity in January this year to serve more than 2,000 patients annually. 

“It will help needy patients in our Inpatient, Home Care and Day Care settings, to live their remaining days in comfort and dignity

SGC general manager Andrew Johnston said he was humbled by the strong support that SGC members and supporters gave to the fund-raising drive.

“The opening of our New Tanjong Course gave us the opportunity to bring together ourmembers, golfing community and corporate partners to give back to society," he said. 

“We are delighted with the successful fund-raising effort and look forward to continue working with our stakeholders on further meaningful initiatives.”
