INCHEON — Singapore dropped their third consecutive match in pool play today (Sept 23), losing 2-1 to Bangladesh at the Munhak Hockey Stadium.

Bangladesh, ranked 30th in the world, are realistically Singapore’s only chance of picking up victory in Pool A which also includes South Korea (8th), Malaysia (13th) and Japan (14th).

After failing to breach the Bangladeshi defence despite dominating the first quarter, Singapore paid the price for going to sleep in the second period, conceding goals to Khisa Pushkor in the 21st minute and Khorshadur Rahman from a penalty stroke three minutes later.

Despite pulling the score back to 2-1 in the final quarter, with Tan Yi Ru finishing off a well-worked penalty corner, Singapore were unable to find the equaliser.

Singapore dropped their opening two matches — 8-2 to Malaysia and 12-0 to South Korea — and will play their final pool match against Japan on Thursday.
