SINGAPORE — Telco giant Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) will be the title sponsor of the 2013 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, which will be held on Sept 22 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, it was announced today (July 5).

No figures were revealed for this latest deal, which was made with Formula 1, was announced earlier today by race promoter Singapore GP Pte Ltd. SingTel have also secured options to renew the title sponsorship until 2017.

SingTel have been the event’s title sponsor since the inaugural edition in 2008, which was won by then-Renault driver Fernando Alonso.

But its role has extended beyond that to include offering innovative technological solutions and services in and around the Circuit Park.

One of the roles of title sponsor is to commission the winner’s trophy.

For this year, SingTel have hired Singapore company RISIS to design a trophy inspired by the Singapore skyline, and when viewed from the top, resembles the shape of the 5.067km anti-clockwise Marina Bay street circuit.

In March 2011, SingTel confirmed that it would title sponsor the race for two years until 2012, believed to be at an estimated cost of S$10 million and S$15 million annually at that time.
