Some lucky spectators were treated to a preview of the 8th ASEAN Para Games’ (APG) opening ceremony at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last night, as performers — both able-bodied and disabled — kept the audience enthralled with a show of dance, art, acrobatics and sport.

The APG’s opening party will see 661 performers, 454 students from 15 special education schools, 174 volunteers and 120 motivators coming together to put on a special show for audiences here and in the region.

Solo dancer Luo Mang, 15, who is autistic, has been hard at work practising her dance moves since September. “Yes, it was difficult (learning the moves), but I like dancing,” said the Eden School student. “I’m very happy to be dancing for the 8th ASEAN Para Games.”

The Games, to be run here from Thursday to Dec 9, will feature about 1,500 athletes from 10 countries competing across 15 sports. The opening ceremony will be held at the indoor stadium on Thursday. Photo: Wee Teck Hian
