SINGAPORE — Singapore national runner Soh Rui Yong has taken on the role of ambassador for May’s OSIM Sundown Marathon — Asia’s largest night marathon.

The 24-year-old, who is aiming to become the first Singaporean marathon runner to qualify for August’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, said he is a firm believer in giving back to the local running community.

“OSIM Sundown is the largest night marathon in Asia, and being a part of something this significant is a huge privilege,” said Soh, the reigning SEA Games Marathon champion. “I believe that the pursuit of my Olympic quest and contributing to the local running community goes hand in hand. As the Singapore running community grows stronger, so will the talent pool, and eventually, our top athletes.

“Through my quest to be a better athlete, I wish to not just run faster, but at the same time encourage and inspire others in the community to pick up the sport and redefine what’s possible for themselves. Through an active lifestyle, we can all be happier, healthier, more productive individuals in other aspects of life.”

The annual night marathon will also see healthy lifestyle brand OSIM returning as title sponsor for the second consecutive year.

Adrian Mok, managing director of HiVelocity Events, the owner and organiser of Sundown Marathon, said Soh is a great example of someone who exudes the passion and commitment to chase one’s dreams against all odds.

“His driving spirit is something all OSIM Sundown runners possess, which is why having a partner and ambassador who shares the same vision of inspiring well-being, and reaching out to a large community through running, is something we all are excited about,” he added.

Into its 9th edition, this year’s Sundown Marathon will feature the 5km Fun Run for anyone above six years old; the 10km run; the half marathon (21.1km); and the full marathon (42.195km).
