SINGAPORE — Singapore were held to a 2-2 draw by Guam in an international friendly match at the Jalan Besar Stadium tonight (March 31).

The visitors, 167th in FIFA’s world rankings, took a surprise lead after 37 minutes through Shawn Nicklaw. But winger Faris Ramli’s 53rd minute header levelled matters.

However, a spectacular shot from Jason Cunliffe restored Guam’s lead and put his side on course for an unlikely win over world No 153rd ranked Singapore.

But defender Baihakki Khaizan spared Singapore’s blushes with an 80th minute equaliser.

The result comes after Singapore lost 2-0 to Thailand in a friendly in Korat last Thursday.

A minute’s silence was also observed before kick-off — which was delayed due to a lightning warning — for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first Prime Minister who died last Monday (March 23). Both sides also wore black armbands as a mark of respect.
