SINGAPORE — Running enthusiasts who find standard marathons a walk in the park can now satiate their need for a tougher challenge.

The Sundown Ultra-Marathon will be making its return this year after a one-year hiatus, with an option for runners to participate as groups of two or four in a relay format. Organisers can expecting 5000 competitors for the 100km race.

The ultra-marathon will take place on Sept 14, three months after the sixth edition of its sister event, the Sundown Marathon, which will take place over two nights from May 31 to Jun 1. Over 30,000 runners are expected to be in attendance.

The Sundown Marathon will feature three race categories — 10km, 21km and 42km — and the organiser has also re-introduced a 10km team event where groups of four will compete to become the fastest outfit based on the combined timings of team-mates.

Adrian Mok, director of organising company HiVelocity Events Pte Ltd said: “We are glad to re-introduce the Sundown Ultra-Marathon as promised. The race represents what we stand for — determination, passion and fortitude.

“Both the Marathon and Ultra-Marathon have been and still are very special night runs that garner the most support from the running community.”

“We have decided to up the ante this year by introducing team categories in both the 10km and 100km runs so that more runners can have fun and bond together through their common love,” Mok added.

The Sundown Marathon 2013 is already open for individual registration at www.sundownmarathon.com.

Ultra-Marathon (all categories) & Sundown Marathon Team registration will be available online from 1 Feb 2013, 10am. ALYWIN CHEW
