SINGAPORE – Between 8,500 to 10,000 primary school students in Singapore will benefit from the Tennis for Every Child programme launched today (Sept 10).

The five-year programme is a collaboration between homegrown luxury property developer SC Global — the presenting sponsor of the upcoming BNP Paribas Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Championships in Singapore (Oct 16-27) — and the Singapore Tennis Association.

SC Global is committing S$500,000 to the programme, which will see a modified version of tennis using lighter rackets, lower nets and softer balls, introduced in 14 primary schools for physical education classes from next Monday onwards. Four of the participating schools will also offer tennis as a co-curricular activity option.

Schools will be provided with free equipment and coaches’ training.

SC Global has also pledged to hand out 200 tickets to the programme’s participating students to watch the tournament next month.
