SINGAPORE — Fitness trackers usually help track the number of steps you take in a day and the quality of sleep you get but, with the Sony Smartband SWR10, you will be able to track quite a bit more.

The Smartband is an Android-only device that tracks your activity throughout the day. It is meant to be worn on your wrist day or night
(unless you are charging it).

The key to the Smartband’s usefulness is in Sony’s Lifelog app, which tracks a multitude of things in addition to steps (it can differentiate between jogging and walking) and sleep.

It also tracks what you have done on your smartphone, from social media and gaming to taking pictures, creating a whole diary of your day on your phone.

You can also get the band to vibrate when you receive a call or any other notification, or when you walk too far from your phone — features that make it more functional than your usual fitness tracker.

The Smartband is waterproof, so you can swim or shower with it on, and battery life lasts for around five days.

Pairing it with your smartphone is easy, as it is compatible with near field communication (NFC) — so you can pair it with your phone simply by touch — while connectivity is maintained via Bluetooth.

While not as feature-rich as smartwatches or some trackers with a screen, the Smartband boasts much better battery life.

While tracking seems more sensitive than that of other trackers (the Smartband usually reports slightly higher numbers for steps and sleep), the band’s extra functions and the Lifelog app make it an interesting choice.

The Smartband SWR10 pis now available at S$138 and will work with smartphones with Android 4.4
and above. Alvin Chong
